Biotech Heights wants to engage more people in the potential of biotechnology – Now opening for new members

Press release: Biotech Heights wants to engage more people in the potential of biotechnology – Now opening for new members.
Lund, 7 April 2025 – Startups, companies, and researchers are now welcome to join Biotech Heights, located at Kemicentrum in Lund. This innovation hub brings together stakeholders committed to advancing research, innovation, and commercialization in the field of biotechnology.
“Biotechnology holds enormous potential, from food production to materials development, but to fully realize it, we must work together to address a range of challenges,” says Emma Nordell, Project Manager for Biotech Heights at Lund University.
These challenges include which raw materials to use, how to develop new processes, and the importance of simplified regulations for launching new products. The scope also covers health and nutrition – and even what to call food developed using biotechnology! A key issue that Biotech Heights aims to champion is how to translate laboratory research into industrial-scale production, to strengthen both Sweden’s and Europe’s competitiveness.
Biotech Heights was founded in 2023 as a result of a long-term collaboration between Lund University and Tetra Pak. Since its launch, the innovation hub has initiated several research and innovation projects and brought together a wide range of national and international players seeking to establish biotechnology as a standalone industry for food and material production.
“Innovation in alternative foods and materials plays a key role in shaping the food systems of tomorrow. Biotech Heights offers opportunities for collaboration across sectors, where knowledge can be shared and solutions developed and scaled up,” says Marie Sandin, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Sweden.
Biotech Heights open for new members interested in driving innovation
Biotech Heights is now welcoming startups, businesses, and researchers to join its network, take part in events and activities, and collaborate on various innovation and research projects.
“By opening up Biotech Heights to more participants, we are laying the foundation for a long-term initiative around research and innovation in biotechnology – with a focus on future food. This allows us to take a united approach to create the innovations and growth of tomorrow in the biotech field,” says Annika Olsson, Dean of LTH, Lund University.
